Andy Boardman is Managing Director of Alcedo Care, the Southport-based home care group he set up with Jo Boardman in 2017.
BIOGRAPHY
Andy Boardman is Managing Director of Alcedo Care, a family-owned home care group headquartered in Southport that delivers care from branches across the North of England, the Midlands and Wales. He runs it with his co-director Jo Boardman. The group's own team page lists his role as Director, while its news releases from 2021 to 2026 use Managing Director.
Boardman set up Alcedo Care in March 2017 with Jo Boardman, after a career outside care. LinkedIn shows him qualifying as a chartered accountant at Voisey & Co in Warrington (1989 to 1992) after a degree in Biology and Biochemical Sciences at the University of Salford. He was then Group Commercial Director at Cammell Laird Holdings from 1993 to 2001 and chief executive of HSOG from 2011 to 2016. He told Wigan Today in 2021 that he had worked in the oil and gas industry, left it after the 2016 oil price crash, and moved into care partly because of a family member's bad experience of it.
Alcedo began life inside a national franchise network. The owners later bought their three offices out of it and became independent. The group reported turnover of £24 million for the year to March 2023, up from £14 million, with a workforce of about 1,000. It won a Princess Royal Training Award in 2024 for its complex care training, and was named Employer of the Year at the inaugural Southport Business Awards on 21 August 2026.
