BIOGRAPHY

Karen Rogers MBE is Chief Executive and owner of Herefordshire Care Homes, a group of six nursing and residential homes in Herefordshire. The group's website says five of the six are rated Outstanding by the Care Quality Commission and the sixth, Dulas Court, is rated Good. She has owned and run the business since 1999 and is a director of Herefordshire Care Homes Limited, a role she has held since February 2014.

Her route into ownership came through the public sector. The group's website says she worked in the NHS and in local authority, where she was responsible for inspecting care homes, and that she advised the Department of Health on regulatory policy. From 1994 to 1999 she studied at the University of Birmingham and gained a social work diploma and master's degrees in social sciences and in health and social services management. She also holds an approved lead auditor qualification and is an ISO 9001 internal auditor.

In December 2014 she won the Outstanding Contribution to Social Care award at the Great British Care Awards; the group's website lists a regional win in 2014 and a national win in 2015. In 2021 she told Care Home Professional that she closed all of her homes to admissions on 2 March 2020, before national lockdown, and kept a no-agency staffing policy through the pandemic. She received an MBE for services to social care in the 2025 New Year Honours.

In 2025 she trialled the Dignity Competency Framework with her staff teams and reported to the Dignity in Care campaign that it was easy to use for auditing dignity approaches.
