Nervecentre

Clinical task management and EPR

Clinical workflow & hospital operations

Founder-owned UK software company that grew from mobile clinical task management into a full electronic patient record contender now winning acute NHS trust contracts.

The read

Nervecentre began as a mobile clinical task-management and electronic observations tool for NHS wards and has since evolved into a full electronic patient record contender, winning a string of acute trust EPR contracts through 2025 and 2026, including Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust and Liverpool University Hospitals.

It remains founder-owned, with Paul Volkaerts continuing as chief executive since founding the company in 2010, and has grown without the venture or private-equity funding that characterises much of the rest of this category.

The Bridgehead view

Nervecentre's climb from a niche task-management app to a credible EPR alternative shows the NHS EPR market fragmenting beyond the traditional big-name suppliers, as trusts increasingly favour UK-built, clinically-led platforms with a track record in day-to-day ward operations.

About this page

No. The MedTech Index is independent editorial coverage — we track and write up companies we judge genuinely significant in the sector, and inclusion is not for sale. Where shown, coverage of Nervecentre above is drawn from public reporting, not sponsored content.

We map the sector by who is actually shaping it: funding, product reach, regulatory engagement and the coverage they earn. The MedTech Index is maintained by our editorial team and updated as the market moves, not compiled from vendor submissions.
