Brainomix

Stroke and lung imaging AI

Diagnostics & imaging

Oxford University spinout building AI imaging biomarkers for stroke and lung disease, used to speed emergency treatment decisions from CT and MRI scans.

The read

Brainomix 360 is an AI imaging platform originally built to speed stroke triage by automating scoring of CT brain scans, since extended into lung fibrosis and lung cancer imaging. The software flags markers such as ischaemic core volume directly to clinicians, cutting the time between a scan and a treatment decision such as thrombectomy.

A Lancet Digital Health study of over 450,000 patients across 107 NHS England hospitals found its use associated with increased thrombectomy rates. In 2026 it rolled out across all 25 sites of West Virginia University Health System, extending its NHS-built evidence base into the US market.

The Bridgehead view

Brainomix's growth is a useful proof point for how far regulatory-first, NHS-embedded AI diagnostics can travel once peer-reviewed, multi-year clinical evidence exists to de-risk procurement for other health systems.
