Dermatology AI

Diagnostics & imaging

AI-powered skin cancer detection device, DERM, deployed directly within NHS urgent skin cancer pathways to autonomously rule out low-risk cases.

The read

Skin Analytics' DERM software analyses images of suspicious skin lesions and can autonomously discharge low-risk cases without a clinician reviewing the image — a regulatory first under the EU's highest-risk device classification, Class III. It is deployed inside NHS two-week-wait dermatology pathways to help clear lesion backlogs.

In June 2026 it launched DERM Zero, a smartphone-only version that widens access beyond hospital dermatoscope equipment, and NICE gave the platform a positive Early Value Assessment for NHS use in 2025.

The Bridgehead view

Skin Analytics' Class III "autonomous decision" mark is the sharpest regulatory story in UK diagnostics AI: a genuine test of whether regulators will let software discharge patients without a clinician in the loop, which is the commercial unlock the whole category is chasing.
